ABOUT THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

 

 THE WORLD NEEDS GREAT LEADERS:

Organizations are constantly searching for great leaders. Those special individuals who have a combination of ethical character, vision, business acumen, great sense of responsibility, accountability and governance,  professional experience, care about their followers, cultural awareness, global perspective, and have the courage to lead effectively to make a positive difference. Vision is the art of seeing things invisible. Leadership is characterized by vision.

OUR CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER    

Mr. Beuns joined the organization in 1984 as a young professional.  In 1986, he was among other leaders who have initiated the legalization process of CORCAH.  In 1989, he became the initial director. As part of his responsibility, he was in charge of ensuring compliance with all State and Federal corporation laws.  In 1990, he served as Vice-President of CORCAH.   

Vanel Beuns has been an invaluable asset to our organization and is the perfect choice to help guide CORCAH as Chief Executive Officer. He not only brings the highest level of integrity and breadth of experience to the role, but he has a deep commitment to our stakeholders.

He is a very warm, compassionate, knowledgeable, friendly, and great leader. He is very passionate, and dedicated to sustainable economic development and  poverty reduction strategies. Prior to joining the Committee of Relief and Cooperation for the Advancement of Haiti (CORCAH) , Mr. Beuns was a Professor of Psychology in Haiti. In 1979, he was promoted to Principal Professor of Psychology. He played a key role in the restructuring of the educational system in Haiti. In this position, he fostered partnerships with national, regional and international organizations.

At present, Mr. Beuns is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).  He is legally responsible for the highest level of decision-making and legal authority in CORCAH. By law, he is ultimately accountable for, and has authority over, the organization’s structure, resources and activities.

Demonstrating trust, integrity and a sense of pride in our organization is a core tenet of Vanel's strategy. This will take hard work, "an outrageous sense of urgency," plus the commitment and involvement of everyone in the organization. “We will adopt a global strategy to take full advantage of the organization's worldwide presence” says Vanel.

LEADERSHIP AND RESULTS:

Mr. Beuns is taking leadership to the next level by leading in a fast operating mode, concentrating on gathering and analyzing information, strategizing, improving processes through advanced technologies, and igniting innovative ideas and high quality services. He is a recognized expert on financial issues, and management of technology for strategic planning, formulation, implementation and control.

Mr. Beuns is responsible for designing and implementing the organization's communications and outreach strategy with Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and other key constituencies in the United States and other industrialized nations. He also advises the Chairman of the Board of Directors on public advocacy issues of interest to the organization.

A factor influencing the organization is the widespread use of technology, which has  revolutionized the way we work. Technology permits us to communicate effectively with members around the world.   As a result of Vanel’s leadership, CORCAH has an official website. Globalization also means that accountability and transparency are more important than ever before. As we move forward,  we communicate better our accomplishments and values.

LEADERSHIP AND AREAS OF EXPERTISE:

Mr. Beuns is a technocrat. His areas of expertise are, and not limited to Finance, Management of Technology for Strategic Planning, Education and Development, Sustainable Economic Development, Telecommunications, Customer Relationship Management, Development of Poverty Reduction Strategies and Millennium Development Goals.

He has also been driving hard toward creating tools and approaches for running the organization strategically and quantitatively, providing accurate metrics as a guide for divisions and organizations. This includes identifying baselines for trend; fostering partnerships; understanding the relationship between donors and recipients; and other key indicators that will enable the management team to further develop and execute the strategic plan of the organization.
 

As Chief Executive Officer, he has demonstrated his ability to foster partnerships and build an efficient bridge between donors and recipients. He has effectively implemented a quantitative approach to promote sustainable economic growth, and, most importantly, reduce poverty around the world.

His expertise is based on his ability and passion to translate ideas, concepts and theories into results on the ground. As Chief Executive Officer of CORCAH, Mr. Beuns has been involved in planning, directing, organizing, and controlling the organization's strategy-related decisions and actions.

LEADERSHIP STRATEGIES:

Mr. Beuns has demonstrated the ability to gain the trust and respect of country counterparts, build solid relationships with stakeholders, lead and manage teams, and, most importantly, inspire others. There are people who learn about poverty in books, but then there are those who have lived it. He has demonstrated a combination of both: Theory and experience.

Mr. Beuns is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all chapters;  works closely with the Board of Directors providing advice on economic and financial issues and country strategies; and has overall quality-control and oversight responsibility (strategic design, output quality, and evaluation) for all services.

He also has primary responsibility for development and implementation of projects. In this capacity, he plays a lead role in managing client relations, program and portfolio management. He works closely with task teams on financial issues, and generally provides guidance on operational and strategic issues. He also takes the lead in establishing partnerships with local, regional and international institutions. He participates in and contributes to Regional research and economic studies.

With a unique combination of business acumen, experience in poverty and technological skills, Mr. Beuns has demonstrated his strong ability to assess situations, analyze complex issues, develop solutions and measure progress differently. "Perhaps the most challenging aspect is to ensure that a project will have a tangible development impact in terms of job creation, boosting the local economy, reducing poverty,  and empowering people” says Mr. Beuns

BLENDING ECONOMIC GOVERNANCE AND NONPROFIT MODEL:

Here at CORCAH, Mr. Beuns played a role in crafting CORCAH’s governance that foster transparency and accountability in the organization.  The public must have faith in the accuracy and accountability of Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and their leaders. That’s Mr. Beuns believes that the promotion of accountability and transparency are crucial to promoting sustained economic development that benefits everyone.

Mr. Beuns credits his systematic and quantitative approach to his mathematics background in engineering. He is a MU ALPHA THETA member, an association for university students who earned an award in mathematics in the United States.

“I have put an extra effort into my job. I am really grateful for the opportunity I was offered through this organization. For me, economic development is doing the right thing, and hoping for the right result," he says.  Mr. Beuns has been involved in the Economic Development of Haiti, working on issues of urban revitalization. "I was pleasantly surprised," he says of his experience, "to find the great diversity of backgrounds on a variety of issues”.

LEADERSHIP AND EMPOWERMENT:

At CORCAH, empowerment is a major initiative. We are ready to operate globally. Mr Beuns has demonstrated his abilities to articulate and communicate clearly the organization’s vision. In collaboration with members of the Board of Directors, he has defined the parameters within which the organization will carry out its work.

As Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Beuns is working tirelessly to establish and implement the organization’s mission.  He provides continuity for managing and implementing the organization’s affairs, and by securing the community support and appreciation for the organization’s objects, beliefs, vision, mission, and long-term direction.

LEADERSHIP AND ENTREPRENEURISM:

At Corcah, members are asked to think like entrepreneurs and to participate actively in teamwork. Entrepreneurial thinking and activities thrive in a free society. Mr. Beuns inspires entrepreneurial zeal from members through excellent opportunities to explore innovations.    

Over the past 20 years, he has built a record of achievement under challenging circumstances. Before becoming the organization’s CEO, Mr. Beuns established his career as a Professor of Psychology with a parallel involvement in development issues and education. He left Haiti in 1979.

MANAGEMENT OF TECHNOLOGY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:

Under Beuns’ leadership, CORCAH has turned a page in its history.  The organization was represented by Mr. Beuns at the international conference held in Miami, Florida. The main purpose is to foster partnerships among organization, government, civil society, and the private sector. 

In 2004, CORCAH launched its first HIGH-TECH website at www.haiticorcah.org. Mr. Beuns has made communications technology a priority and helped forge strategic partnerships. Also, the website was an excellent way to increase efficiency. Members become more involved by focusing on CORCAH activities and operations.

LEADERSHIP AND EFECTIVE COMMUNICATION:

Mr. Beuns has spent a tremendous amount of time interacting with CORCAH stakeholders to better understand the challenges facing the organization. He has written major development projects on watershed and ecosystem management, sustainable tourism and marine transportation.  He has met with representatives from business, non-governmental organizations and universities.

Mr. Beuns served as Treasury Analyst, Corporate Tax Coordinator, Accounting Analyst and Senior Analyst at two multibillion-dollar Companies in New Jersey.  He has participated in a wide range of cultural and volunteer activities throughout his life. He is a member of the Executive committee and, also, the Finance Committee Chairman of the National Black MBA Association. 

OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

From an academic standpoint, Mr. Beuns received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.  He earned a Master of Science degree in Finance (Highest Distinction – GPA: 3.7/4.0) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with high distinction (GPA: 3.8/4.0) in Management of Technology for strategic planning, formulation, implementation and control. In addition, he earned a college degree in Engineering with honor and, also, a degree in Education. He speaks English, French and Spanish.  He is a prospective doctorate candidate in Strategic Management. He is looking forward to earning a PhD in the near future.  

He served as Vice-President and President of Alpha Epsilon Lambda, an elite academic organization for TOP graduate students at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in New Jersey, USA.  In January 2001, he has received a Leadership award for his dedicated service and commitment to the Sigma Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Lambda, and contribution to this well known American university. In addition, Mr. Beuns has been the recipient of many other awards, including Mu Alpha Theta (National Mathematics Honor Society) for outstanding academic performance in advanced Mathematics, NJ-NBMBAA Chairperson’s of the Year and MCI Employee Commendation Award for outstanding work performance.
