PRESS RELEASE

INTERNATIONAL DONORS CONFERENCE TO RAISE
FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR HAITI'S RECOVERY

An International Donors Conference on Haiti will be held on July 19 and 20, 2004 at the World Bank in Washington DC to raise funding from the donor community for Haiti's urgent and medium-term economic, social and political needs. Over the past two months, under the leadership of the Government of Haiti, international and national donors and experts have prepared an assessment of Haiti's priority needs. Known as the Interim Cooperation Framework, this assessment, which details the Government's financial needs and priority programs over the next two years, will form the basis for technical discussions on July 19th and a Ministerial-level pledging conference on July 20. The Interim Cooperation Framework report will be released to the public on July 13, 2004. The donors conference is co-hosted by the European Commission, the Inter-American Development Bank, the United Nations, and the World Bank.

Accredited members of the media are cordially invited to attend both the technical discussions and the Ministerial pledging conference.
